INTERMEDIATE ARCHERY COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is for the archer desiring to reach a higher skill level. The focus will be on becoming a more consistent shooter.
After careful observation and evaluation of the student while shooting, I will customize a plan of practice exercises that will advance the student to the next level of accuracy and consistency.

Careful evaluation allows the archer to keep what is working good for you and change shooting techniques in a way that really performs for your personal motor skills and your body structure as everybody has a slight difference in muscle tone and skeleton structure.

This class is for the archer that is willing to do his or her assigned home work and has that passion for archery that we call the’ lure of archery’.

ADVANCED ARCHERY COURSE DESCRIPTION

For the skilled archer who desires to rise to the next level of accuracy.

It is normal to be in a place of not knowing what to do next when the archer is already performing well.

If you are coachable and will commit to a serious regiment of endurance exercises designed in a way that works for your life style, then you will climb to a higher peak of shooting consistency while staying out of the valleys of inconsistency.
Secrets of a champion are not withheld in this course. The competitive secrets I have learned through the experiences of competition and training are transferred to you in a way that works for you.

In the peak of my shooting career I was winning every division all the time. Of course I would obtain a second place trophy here and there. A National Champion friend of mine was observing me shoot and asked me the following.

Norman, do you want to go higher in your skill level? Do you desire to rise to the mountain top and stay there longer with less valleys, less peaks and dips and develop more consistency in your shooting skills?
Are you willing to win less championships as you train?
Are you willing to work through the process of what I show you?
If you are willing I am confident you will rise to greater levels of shooting consistency.
He challenged me to really think about this before answering the questions. So I knew that part of the process would have to be changing some things in my shooting techniques.
The things I am referring to are simply shooting form that was working very well.
I continued to shoot in the competitive arena as I thought about his questions and his challenges to commit to training under his guidance.
After serious contemplation of his questions I reported back to him and said yes to training with his guidance.
The process was challenging as I worked through the changes he made in my shooting form. I understood the price to pay was changing myself and not focusing on competition titles.
I went in the valley of lower scores and not winning titles as much.
Results of training
I climbed to higher mountains and stayed there longer. (Higher scores).
I have less peaks and dips of inconsistencies in my shooting skills. The reward of changing shooting skills are awesome.
As you are shooting it is difficult to watch yourself in a mirror. When the coach is watching the archer shoot he can see shooting techniques of the archer that the archer cannot see.
The mirror I can see in now is the ability to reflect back on the changes that I worked through. The ability to troubleshoot myself when the coach is not present is the result of obtaining a great coach who is one of the best archers in the world.
I personally witnessed him shoot the same X hole on a Vegas 3 spot target over and over without tearing the hole. I have not seen any archer do this for 40 minutes straight since then until now.
My personal records that have not been broken are the result of this willingness to change and a passion to shoot archery when there is no grand stand or audience.
I simply like to shoot even if no one is present.
I look forward to seeing your personal advancements as you find that one little change that makes the difference in your present skill level.
Keeping it fun is a key to keeping the passion of shooting archery.

Wet Bow Carving

Norman Claassen Wet Bow CarvingThe Art of carving a “wet bow” is truly self gratifying.

There are many great modern bow builders building beautiful bows.

I believe I am the only one teaching the art of building the “wet bow”.

It takes a special set of skills combined with experience to carve a bow from a wet piece of vine maple wood.

Imagine being in a wilderness survival situation WISHING you had the skill and knowledge to carve a bow and arrow for food gathering and a self protection tool!

How would a person fashion a bow and arrow from wet wood that has not had time to dry and cure?
The immediate need for this tool could be the difference between life and death.

Survival skills need to be practiced like any other perishable skill.

The ability to carve a bow from wet vine maple and successfully shoot the bow is an accomplishment you can carry with you for the rest of your life.

Norm making a bow

This is a two day (or more) workshop.
Personalize this trip at your comfort level.

Option #1
Backpack 2 miles in the wilderness (moderately difficult), set up camp, select your bow wood and begin the adventure of carving your bow.

Carving a wet vine maple limb is an art. As you are in the process of carving there is a feel for how  the wood changes. The wood will dictate how the bow is fashioned as the wood is changing in the process of carving.

This is truly a satisfying experience as you shoot your bow and remember how the wood had a mind of its own during the journey of carving. The finished product will be unique for you as your bow will not look like any other bow.

Option #2
Base yourself in the comfort of a hotel room and we will have easy access to a wilderness river for carving the bow.
